Story
Living in Nairobi as the pandemic took hold, we were able to see first hand the impact Coronavirus was having on Kenyan families. So many who had precious jobs in the city were sent home for months unpaid as everyone waited to see how COVID took effect. This came on top of the other challenges many were having to contend with - there was no dry season in 2020 which led to terrible floods and a cholera outbreak, and there was the worst locust infestation in decades which devastated harvests.
The UK government repatriated us for several months during COVID and we moved back to England permanently in early 2021. We were therefore unable to help in the the manner that we had hoped at the start of our African adventure. Send a Cow is a force for change in rural Africa, not just supplying precious livestock, but teaching families life-saving hygiene and sanitation techniques to keep them healthy, as well as ensuring they grow enough food to be self-sufficient. Their work has understandably been essential during the pandemic and is helping Kenyans to get back on their feet.
Ripple Effect, formerly Send a Cow, gives us the means to make a difference in a region we hold dear. Please help us to reach the most vulnerable to ensure that they are able to survive coronavirus and the many other challenges that we in the UK hear so little about.
