Riding the Tour de France to raise money for Cure Leukaemia
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in support of Cure Leukaemia.
In June 2024, I will be taking on my most difficult cycling challenge to date. Along with 24 other amateur cyclists from around the world, I have been selected for “The Tour 21” team on behalf of Cure Leukaemia.
As a keen cyclist, this is an amazing opportunity, but one which cannot be underestimated and will require significant dedication and training to realise!
The Tour 21 | Riding the Tour de France
My teammates and I will be aiming to complete the 2024 Tour de France, one of the world’s most arduous sporting challenges, 1 week ahead of the professional peloton. Starting in Tuscany, the 111th edition of the Tour takes in 21 grueling stages, spread over 3 weeks with the 2023 edition covering circa 3,400km and 57,000m of elevation (roughly 6.5x Mt. Everest)…
To get a real sense of scale, I highly recommend Netflix’s “Tour de France: Unchained” series which underlines the brutality of this event. In 2023, only 85% of the pros crossed the finish line in Paris; to say this is a daunting task for me is an understatement.
Cure Leukaemia | The Blood Cancer Charity
I am taking this challenge on in support of Cure Leukaemia, a UK-based charity funding critical work into the research and treatment of leukaemia. Blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK but with lower awaeness and understanding, its third biggest cancer killer.
This is where Cure Leukaemia’s work is so vital, supporting specialist nurses and funding the Trials Acceleration Programme (“TAP”) to enable the rapid setup and delivery of clinical trials, giving over 20 million people access to potentially lifesaving treatments otherwise not available through standard care pathways.
Fundraising | The Goal
I and my fellow teammates each hope to secure £30,000.00 in donations for this worthy cause – quite an arduous task in itself…
We will be covering the costs and expenses of the event ourselves, ensuring that 100% of donations go directly to the charity.
If you feel able to contribute to Cure Leukaemia, I should be extremely grateful.
