CAN YOU HELP?
On the 26th September Gary Darling and Nick Ivens are taking part in the ‘Beaune Challenge’. Run by Challenge Adventure Charities (charity number 1057920), it involves teams of four cycling 500 miles in three days across France from Caen toBeaune. Each team will be raising a minimum of £1,000 for charity. 50% of the money raised will be supporting.............
The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.
The remaining 50% will be given to our chosen charity,………..The Childrens Liver Disease Foundation (Reg. Charity No. 1067331)
In August 2008 Nick Ivens’ neice gave birth to her first daughter, Ava. She was born with several heart defects and a rare form of congenital liver disease. At four weeks old she had her first heart surgery, but her liver had very poor functionality. After weeks of suffering Ava had her first liver transplant on the 10th May 2009….this was unsuccessful and for five days she fought for her life. At this stage she had no liver function, her kidneys had started to fail, and she suffered three cardiac arrests. On the 15th May 2009 Ava had her second liver transplant. Almost three months later, and just before her first Birthday Ava was allowed home!
Ava is a remarkable little girl, she has had more health battles in her short life than most of us will have in a lifetime. The support of the Childrens Liver Foundation has been immeasurable throughout this period………..I appreciate any help you can give..
