My reasons for raising money for JDRF
There are several different types of diabetes, and all of them have an impact on the lives of the individuals that suffer from diabetes. Some of these types impact the lives of younger people.
When I was 30 I was diagnosed as being prediabetic, last year my sister was diagnosed with Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY), this is a genetic form of diabetes that typically presents when individuals are younger. It was then identified that my father had been wrongly diagnosed for 16 years with type 2 diabetes. I have been tested and I also have the gene. There is very little research or information on MODY and it impacts 1-2% of all diabetes cases.
Like MODY, Type 1 diabetes impacts younger individuals and with this it is the most common form of diabetes in children. We know little about the causes of type 1 diabetes and currently we can only treat rather than cure diabetes.
The work of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ltd (JDRF) aims to fund type 1 diabetes research to improve lives and one day eradicate the condition for good.
This is why I am raising money for JDRF, the work they do will change the lives of children impacted by type 1 diabetes and hopefully find a cure for this lifelong condition.
