Story
Firstly thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
You may already be aware but in July 2010 we lost a truly amazing person. My brother Gareth was just 20 years old when he passed away but in those 20 years he touched the lives and hearts of so many. He was such a fun, kind and caring person and was loved by his family and friends far more than words can even describe and his death has left an unimaginable void in all of our lives.
One of the things that has kept me going since Gareth’s death is fundraising in his memory by taking on various challenges. So far I have completed a half marathon and the 3 peaks challenge but this year I think will be my most testing challenge so far. I will be taking on a 20 mile assault course which they are describing as the world’s largest assault course. One of the obstacles is 105m of monkey bars which is one hell of a challenge in itself let alone the other 199 obstacles and 20 miles of running I will have to endure! They say this is harder than a marathon and will take anywhere between 4 and 12 hours to complete!! More info on the event can be found at http://www.ratracedirtyweekend.com/
Did you know that suicide is the leading cause of death in men under the age of 35?? Or that there are 3 young suicides a day (under 24's) in the UK and Ireland?
The statistics show just how large a killer suicide is and if I can help to prevent even just one death and prevent one family from losing someone they love so dearly as mine have, then I know that it will have been worthwhile. I am raising money for PAPYRUS who work to raise awareness and are dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. Their website is http://www.papyrus-uk.org/ if you would like to take a look at the work they do or how they can help.
I would be so grateful if you could help me to raise money in Gareth's memory for a charity that is so close to my heart for the work they do. Even just a small donation will go a long way. If you can't afford to make a donation I at least hope that by coming here and reading my story your awareness about young suicide has increased and that you can help to raise the awareness of others too.
Thank you for all of your support
