Last January (2018) I was diagnosed with a moderately aggressive firm of Prostate Cancer. A disease that did not show any symptoms and one that I only discovered because my Dad has been nagging me due years to get myself checked out once I turned 50. His Dad, my grandfather, had died of Prostate Cancer and he was worried that it might have been hereditary. In truth, I only took his words seriously once he was also diagnosed last July. It shook me and I decided that I'd get myself checked once is returned from our summer holiday. 

In September 2017 I had a blood test at the local surgery, where they tested my PSA levels (Prorated Specific Antigen) and these proved higher than acceptable. These tests, and a urine sample, were repeated - again high but not done to a water infection. In October, I had an MRI scan which was followed by a necessary biopsy in December. That brings us back to January and my diagnosis 

I was given the option of radiotherapy or Prostatectomy (removal of my prostate). After much deliberation I chose the latter. My operation took place on 7th March and 12 weeks later I was told that the pathology report seemed to show that the removal of cancer from my prostate area had been successful. I am now required to attend regular checks every 4 months. I'm 51 years old but if I had not got myself checked then I may not have seen 55.

THE TRUTH IS.. I'M THE LUCKY ONE!! There are 1000s of men walking around with this sneaky little disease but they don't know it. I'm helping the Prostate Cymru to assist the men in Wales to identify and to cure themselves of Prostate Cancer before it's too late.
