Last year I ran the Great Manchester Run Half Marathon, this year it’s double. I’ve signed on to run the Chester Marathon in October.
In 2015, at the age of 36, I was diagnosed as Severely Sight Impaired (or legally blind) with a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). RP is a gradually progressive condition that primarily affects peripheral and night vision. Unfortunately, the effects can't be reversed or stopped and there is very real possibility that I could go completely blind.
When I was first diagnosed, Henshaws helped me understand my diagnosis and offered support. Organisations like Henshaws are imperative to the VI community by enabling VI people maintain independence and offering support in any way they can.
