Story
Thank you for taking the time to read our story about Thomas.
My youngest son Thomas had a pretty tough start to his life. At just a week old, he had an infection with a 50/50 chance of surviving. He’s a stubborn little chap so got through that little scare. All was well for a few weeks, then at 5 weeks old he was taken into Milton Keynes hospital and we were told he had meningitis with a 50/50 chance of surviving again. He was pretty poorly and we were very worried. The doctors kept talking about 'sepsis' and we had no idea what that really meant. Sepsis is one of the biggest killers in newborn babies.
To put it simply his life was saved because my wife recognised the signs early and took action. This together with the specialist care he received at hospital meant he was able to make a full recovery. After a few bumps along the way, Thomas is now 5 and has turned into a lovely, caring and fun loving little boy with a love for kick boxing, swimming and winding up his older brother George. He wouldn't be here without the actions that everyone took.
I've been lucky enough to secure a place in the London Marathon next year and I’m looking to raise £2000 for the charity ‘Meningitis Now’. They do fantastic research and work with parents to help recognise the signs and minimise the impact of meningitis.
You can help make a difference by sponsoring me just a few pounds. Every pound goes into specialist research and raising awareness into meningitis. Give what you can and it won't go to waste. Thank you.
