A couple of years ago, I signed up to run a half marathon, it was partly a bid to increase my fitness, and partly a personal challenge to train for, and complete a half marathon in eight weeks.
Having never run before, it was hard going but surprisingly engaging! I felt my previous distaste for ‘running for anything but a train’ fall away as I was impacted by the huge positive benefits to my mental wellbeing and general energy levels! The training was actually fun and the sense of achievement was fully worth it.
Two years on, and several stones later, completing a full marathon was now firmly on my bucket list, so the opportunity to run one virtually and for TLG was a win, win, win.
With a 16-week training plan in place and the added motivation of raising money for TLG, I’m currently running four times a week. I’ve caught up with old friends, figuratively and literally, as well as made some good progress through the audiobooks that were gathering digital-dust on my ‘I’ll listen to that one-day' list.
My plan is to run the virtual marathon along the beautiful and crucially, flat-ish Rochdale Canal, a stunning route running through my home-town of Rochdale, although I’m daunted by the distance – equivalent of Rochdale to Leeds, I’m determined to slowly build up and smash it on the day!
