Event: London Marathon 2023, on 23 April 2023
Sight loss can have a significant negative impact on an individuals life; both emotionally and practically. Our amazing team of runners will be running the 2023 TCS London Marathon to support people affected by sight loss.

Story

Yes, you've read that right! On Sunday 23rd April, we will be running the London Marathon, raising vital funds to support the charity we all proudly work for 'Galloway's.

Every day we see first-hand how important support is for people impacted by sight loss. Some people go through a process similar to grief, where they experience a range of emotions including shock, anger, and denial, before eventually coming to accept their condition.

Galloway's is there at every step and we have been supporting people with sight loss in the North West of England for over 150 years. That said, Galloway's incredible supporters make our vital work possible. We can't do it without you.  Every donation will make a difference, no matter how big or small.

Please support the Galloway's Gals!

Hasanga, Head of Central Resources said: “Leaving behind an year of personal challenges from relationship breakdown to life changing surgery, running has been the one constant thing that kept me going through it all…

After a number of half marathons, I saw the look of joy that fellow runners had after running their first marathon. I wanted to be part of that club. I had this next challenge waiting for me, a challenge that I wouldn’t ever forget achieving.

So here I am taking on this mammoth task of conquering the streets of London not just for myself but raising much needed funds for the Charity I work for to help make a difference to people effected by sight loss.

Nicola, Community Sight Loss Advisor/ECLO said: I started running during the Covid-19 pandemic, before this I hadn’t ran for longer than 30 minutes! I truly caught the running bug and here I am tackling the London Marathon.

After working at Galloways this past year working with and supporting people with sight loss. I’ve seen first hand just how important and necessary this work is.

By running the London marathon and raising money for a sight loss charity, I hope to not only make a difference in the lives of those with sight loss, but to also raise awareness about the issues faced by this community and the importance of supporting them.

Chelsea, Communications Manager said: “There's a definite mix of nerves and excitement; all three of us have completed half marathons before but this will be our first time tackling the full 26.2 miles. I've always been in awe of our incredible fundraisers and their sheer dedication and commitment to supporting our cause.  I'm looking forward to joining our 2023 team and playing a part in raising money for the charity whose support means so much to visually impaired people across Lancashire.

Every penny raised will encourage us to run... walk... or in my case crawl over that finish line haha! We're pledging to raise £10,000... so that will certainly keep us motivated!
