BUPA Great North Run 2010 · 19 September 2010 ·
I am doing the 2011 Great North Run and as always its in memory of my much loved and missed step son Jonathon Allott.
Firstly, thank you if you sponsored me the first time i did this and if you would like to help me again that would be fantastic or if you didn't get around to it the first time then you can help me this year too raise more money for our British Army boys who still very much need our help.
Jonathon died in Afghanistan on 5th March 2010 whilst serving with 3rd Battalion The Rifles - 3 Rifles. The last time i saw Jonny he was trying to get me to go for an early morning run with him but i declined, especially after a heavy night out!! Now I will be running for Jonny and on the day and every training run i do he is always running with me to help me raise money for his fellow Riflemen and there families. The thing is i am not the best at running and Jonathon was never the fittest, but he takes after his dad, great spirit for life and his drive and passion made him the best at what he did, from being a good rifleman and a good friend to others. Michael, Nieve and I are so proud of him.
The Charity I have chosen has launched an appeal to help casualties -The Care for Casualties Appeal has been devised to ensure that the Regiment has sufficient funds to provide the care and support in future years that would be expected of any extended family. This might include installing a stair‐lift for an amputee who would otherwise have a long wait for one, paying for driving lessons for the girlfriend of a Corporal blinded in Sangin, or providing a replacement computer for a severely speech‐restricted Rifleman. The Appeal relates directly to the level of casualties that have been sustained by the Regiment’s highly successful operations in both Iraq and . Afghanistan since its formation in February 2007. The aim is to raise £1 million within its first year.
