Story
So I have signed up to put myself through hell and run the 2015 Bath Half marathon...less than 8 weeks away. This means doing a bit more exercise than running up the stairs or walking home from a night out, and putting down the wine. I'm running for Teenage Cancer Trust and any donations, however small, will be greatly appreciated. Here are a few facts to inform those lucky enough to not have a direct link with teen cancer:
- Cancer is the leading cause of death from disease in teens and young adults (TYAs) in the UK, accounting for 9% of all deaths in males and 15% of all deaths in females aged 15–24.
- Around 7 young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer everyday in the UK.
- In the UK, around 2,200 TYAs are diagnosed with cancer every year.
- Around 310 TYAs die from cancer each year in the UK.
- However, survival rates are improving, with more than 80% of TYAs diagnosed with cancer in the UK survive for at least five years.
- Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to providing expert care and support from the moment they hear the word 'cancer'.
- They are treated as young people first, cancer patients second and everything they do aims to improve their quality of life and chances of survival.
- Teenage Cancer Trust rely on donations to fund their vital work.
I think we can all agree its up to us all to help continuing to increase survival rates, so this is how I will be helping to do my bit. I will keep you up-to-date with my running and fitness week by week, hoping to accomplish goals in the run up to the marathon. Thank you all in advance for your support!
