Story
Number 6 is a One Stop Shop for autistic adults. Number 6 is more than just a place, where autistic people find practical support and advice. It is, where many of them are actually introduced to the experiences of safety, non-judgement, belonging and believing in their own future. Number 6 creates an atmosphere and sense of community, within which we can help each other. Such an opportunity should not be only a privilege for some but it should be a right for all autistic adults, wherever they are.
I am and I always have been autistic, but for most of my life my feeling of being different did not have a name, nor explanation. I just knew that a lot of situations made me feel lonely and empty of hope for finding understanding. I would like to know that there are plenty of places like Number 6 for when our children grow up so that they don't have to feel hopeless and alone.
I like hiking, because I can explore new places and I can see things from different perspectives. Finding new perspectives can feel effortful, but I believe it’s very much worth it, just like reaching seven unique viewpoints of beautiful Edinburgh.
Edinburgh is guarded by Corstorphine Hill, Craiglockhart Hill, Braid Hill, Blackford Hill, Arthur’s Seat, Calton Hill and Castle Rock.
These links below offer you a view into how much effort goes into the services provided by Number 6 and what its existence means for us autistic adults.
