Story

On April 24th, 2022, I will be running 13.1 miles to raise awareness and money for the Women's Prison Association. Please donate! With your support, we can reduce and reimagine our society's reliance on incarceration. Thank you!

WHY I'M RUNNING FOR WPA: Just a few years ago, I joined WPA and I can truly say that my life has been changed for the better. The amount that I have learned about the incredible organization, as well as about the room for improvement in our city's justice system is insurmountable.

FACTS:

- The number of women in prison is skyrocketing at 2x the rate of men - 834% in 4 decades.
- NYC will spend more than $2.6 billion on jails next year — that’s $450K per incarcerated woman per year compared to $20K per woman per year at WPA.
- 30% of women released from jail are rearrested within 3 years. In contrast, less than 10% of women who graduate WPA's ATI program are rearrested.

With your help, I believe that we can create a society where our reliance on incarceration can be replaced by constructive, community-driven responses. WPA empowers women to use their collective voice and experiences to drive change that positively impacts families, communities, and society. Thousands of women affected by the criminal justice system and their families are experiencing freedom, safety, and independence as a result of their partnership with WPA.
