I am running the London marathon 2018 on behalf of CHECT, because my son was diagnosed with eye cancer, & this charity helped us throughout this awful diagnosis.
In early January 2016, my son, Noah (then aged 18 months) was diagnosed with a type of eye cancer called a Retinoblastoma, in his right eye. Following this devastating diagnosis, Noah had surgery to remove his eye and have a prosthetic one fitted in its place, had 6 months of intense chemotherapy, & had to spend 9 weeks in America having Proton Beam Therapy.
During all of this, the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust provided our family with so much invaluable information, advice, care and support, & I want to raise money for them to ensure they can continue to help other families who find themselves in a similar situation.
Training for this event is not going to be easy for me, as in late 2014 I was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer requiring surgery and radiotherapy. This year, just a few days after finding out I had a place in the London marathon, a scan revealed that unfortunately my brain tumour has regrown. Two weeks later I again had to undergo brain surgery, & I am now going to be treated with chemotherapy, which will continue even when I do the marathon.
So, please give generously!
