Story

Please take 5 minutes to read this story.

We have set up this page to raise money for mesothelioma uk which is a registered charity which raises money in aid of supporting people and families suffering from abestos cancer.

Our story goes back to February 2015 when my dads lung collapsed spontaneously. After undergoing surgery and maintaining a long stay in hospital he was finally getting better. We thought, great, he is on the mend. Back to playing jokes on us and being the silly, full of life person he was. Until... February 2016 and the opposite lung collapsed. Again, another long stay in hospital to find out what was going on. Tallying up a collection of x-rays and scans along with a biopsy and numerous chest drains. March 2016 came and the results of the biopsy and the life changing news. 'You have abestos lung cancer'

Our world was shook that day. After hearing this news, we knew life would never be the same.

June 13th 2016 my dad passed away aged 67. 12 weeks after being diagnosed with abestos cancer. The worst day of our lives. Mesothelioma has no cure and is a cruel and devastating disease. He was so strong right up until his very last day and he fought till the very end. He was an amazing person who never took life too seriously. Constantly smiling and joking around.

To raise funds myself and my family have organised a charity cricket match against two local teams on Sunday 6th August. My dad adored cricket, his favourite hobby and sport. Like a child at christmas, his face would light up when anyone spoke about it. He started playing as a young choir boy when he lived in a local vicarage. Over 60 years, he had played, umpired and coached cricket, inspiring young people to take part in the sport that had his heart. We hope to raise lots of money on this day which will support the mesothelioma charity which relies entirely on donations to support the families of the people affected. It does not get the money and research is deserves due to the low amount of people that are diagnosed every year. In addition to the cancer being very aggressive, it means that those diagnosed have a poor prognosis.

All donations to the Mesothelioma UK fund will be greatly appreciated in memory of my best friend, my dad.

Thank you for your time and support
