Story

In October this year I will be 5 years in remission. Also, in October this year I will be running my first ever half marathon!

I am running the Cardiff half marathon for a very special charity, the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity. This charity was set up by a wonderful woman called Eirlys, a ray of sunshine in human form, and her father-in-law Sir Gareth Edwards, with the aim of helping 15-35 year olds in wales who’ve received a cancer diagnosis and the the financial impact this can bring. So far, in the first year of its existence, 222 young people with cancer in wales have received a grant of £250! That’s a massive £55,500 given, whether it’s for new clothes because of weight loss or weight gain, car fuel or bus/train tickets to get to and from hospital, or a wig to help with the trauma of hair loss.

I first met Eirlys just after I got diagnosed with cancer and there’s no words to justify to kindness and support I received from her. To be asked by her to join the board of this amazing charity was such an honour. I hope to raise as much money as I can so young people in wales like me who’ve received a cancer diagnosis can get as much help as they can when going through such an awful and difficult time. There’s no denying getting cancer is straight up horrendous, let alone the financial impacts it brings along so grants like these can make life just that little bit easier when it’s already so difficult.

Thank you so much for donating💛❤️
