My name is Sophie Davies, 21 years old and I am raising money for the Peony Breast Clinic, Prince Phillip Hospital. Hywel Dda. Our family, like many others who have experienced the support of the breast clinic, will always feel deeply grateful to this place. To express our appreciation, I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for the clinic.
In September 2023, while we were on a family holiday in France, my grandmother Suesan discovered a lump on her breast while changing in front of a mirror. After weeks of procedures, tests, and worry, she was diagnosed with breast cancer - a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear.
For anybody that knows my Nanny Sue, you will know how amazing she is. She has always been, positive, kind, caring and resilient. The best Nanny to us Grandchildren and her brave fight against the Cancer diagnosis has been admirable. Her journey so far has been challenging experiencing side effects from some of the treatments, but she remains so determined! We are all extremely proud of her.
The breast clinic was outstanding, offering unwavering support during the diagnosis, surgery, and appointments, and addressing all of the questions with great care. They continue to support my grandmother throughout her current treatments. The staff work diligently to provide support and make it evident that no one is ever alone in their journey. A patient-centred clinic, making a positive impact on so many lives. We are so fortunate to have the NHS, the Peony Breast Clinic should be very proud of their team. Thank you, Diolch.
To Nanny - Thank you for being my best friend. One of my greatest aspirations is to become even half the woman you are. I want to live my life with the same joy and happiness you bring to yours. Your selflessness has taught me so much, and I am incredibly grateful for all the advice, endless love, and, of course, your amazing cooking! Keep fighting against cancer with your incredible strength—you are far stronger than the disease. Your smile and laughter are infectious, making the world a better place. I love you more than chocolate!
A message to those reading this - regularly check for lumps, bumps and abnormalities. They can appear unexpectedly. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
