Story
Jacari is an award-winning charity providing free English lessons to refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant children in Oxford and Bristol.
2021 marks our 65th anniversary - we were born in 1956 as a student run anti-racist campaign group. I have been involved with Jacari in one way or another since 2017, and this year I've chosen to run 65 km over 65 days to raise money and help Jacari work towards a more equal post-covid world.
Anyone who knows me well will know that running hasn't always been easy for me - but I'm excited to get started on my challenge!
The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the children we help, often leaving them socially isolated, with very limited opportunities to practise their English. Many were unable to access online school during lockdowns due to the language barrier and lack of technology at home and are now months behind their peers. Never has there been a greater need for extra tuition.
As a result of the pandemic, at Jacari we are experiencing an increase in demand for our tuition programme and need your help now, more than ever to fund this vital support.
