Story
On 2 April 2023, I will be running the Paris Marathon. Along the 26.3 mile course, I will run past the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, and many other iconic Parisian landmarks. I will be dedicating my marathon and fundraising for the wonderful people at the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).
There are currently 50,000 people living with a spinal cord injury in the UK and every year, approximately 2,500 people - one every four hours - are newly injured by a spinal cord injury. A spinal cord injury can be caused by an accident, such as a fall or traffic collision, during sport, an illness or by clinical negligence. Spinal cord injuries can cause debilitating pain, full or partial paralysis, loss of mobility, bladder & bowel control and sexual function. It is still the case that only one in three newly injured people will be able to access specialist care in an NHS regional spinal cord injury centre.
SIA is a national charitable organisation which specialises in providing practical advice, support and services to people following a spinal cord injury. It is user-led and uses its significant experience of spinal cord injury to help anyone from newly-injured people to those who have lived with a spinal cord injury long term. SIA support spinal cord injury people and their families through their regional support coordinators, specialist spinal cord injury nurses, support line and counselling service, as well providing advocacy, continuing healthcare advice and campaigning for change.
Through my work as a clinical negligence solicitor, I have seen first-hand how devastating a spinal cord injurycan be to a person’s life. I am committed to raising at least £1500 for SIA to help them continue providing the vital services and support to the spinal cord injury community. Please donate as much as you can.
Thanks in advance for all your support.
