Story
As part of Freeths’ diverse and inclusive culture, we are a launching our first “Fast for a Day” initiative to (i) help create awareness and show support of what Muslims experience during Ramadan and (ii) raise money for charity.
On the 5th May we are encouraging departments, teams and sub teams to take part in our “Fast for a Day” initiative.
As a general rule for Muslims during Ramadan who are ill, pregnant, nursing, menstruating, travelling, young or old, fasting is not a requirement on them and the key message is that you should only fast if it is safe for you and you are able to do so – the same applies to Freeths’ “Fast for a Day” initiative.
Your “Fast for a Day” could take the form of any of the following:
- Option 1: Fast (without food and drink) between Dawn (subject to where you are in the country will be around 3.45am) and Sunset (subject to where you are in the country will be around 8.42pm) – for your Muslim colleagues who are fasting as part of Ramadan, this is what they’ll be doing on the day
- Option 2: Fast (without food and drink) during working hours (9am – 5pm)
- Option 3: Fast (abstain from looking at or participating) from Social Media between Dawn and Sunset. This is to recognise that fasting (without food and drink) isn’t appropriate for everyone.
Charity is a significant and intrinsic part of Ramadan. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone as part of the “Fast for a Day” initiative to try as raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support (which is Freeths’ chosen charity).
Message from Macmillan: At Macmillan, we give people with cancer everything we’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are our worries. We’re doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can’t support everyone who needs us. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.
