Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Aged 75, I will from 21st May 2021, cycle the UK end to end, from Lands End to John O’ Groats, with the primary purpose of raising awareness of the abhorrent modern slavery practices that crush lives everywhere in the world. Along the way I am giving mostly virtual talks.
I am raising funds to continue ASI's work of setting free generations of Haliya or "Untouchables" in West Nepal from inheritance based slavery, It was those most despised & downtrodden people that my late daughter Melanie spent her time with and loved so much,
This is a homage to abolitionist Thomas Clarkson who 230 years ago rode on horseback to towns across Britain, ,raising awareness of the horrors and suffering in the Transatlantic Slave Trade and, support for the Anti-Slavery campaign
Anti-Slavery International’s Rebecca Chambers said “Simon feels passionately about the cause; He cycled for Anti-Slavery International in 2018 when he completed the 100 mile Prudential Ride London, He regularly delivers talks on modern slavery within the Amnesty speaker network and as secretary of the global Rotary Action Group Against Slavery (RAGAS).
Simon told Rebecca "I feel deep sadness and outrage that millions upon millions of my brothers and sisters around the world are being held in abject misery. What turns the knife in my side is that this is being done for me and in my name. It is done so that we may enjoy slightly cheaper clothes, food, electronics and so on. ”We can help end this.”
PS I made it! Through an 85mph gale at Lands End, a deluge in Devon, climbing the Cairngorms and breaking the bike I managed to get to John O' Groats and on time, giving talks on Modern Slavery along the way.
