Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On Sunday May 11th a good friend and I are heading back to the Lake District to once again ride the annual Fred Whitton Saddleback Challenge.
"The Fred" is a 112-mile cycle-sportive that starts and finishes at Grasmere. It takes in each of the ten hardest Lakeland climbs, including Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott and Wrynose. With approx 4000 metres of climbing across the course length, the Fred is considered one of the hardest single day cycling challenges in the UK.
In the 1st year we completed the course in 9hrs 51mins, and last year had an epic adventure as the Lakeland weather did everything to thwart our attempt - we still made the challenge, risking near hypothermia, and taking 10 hours. But we can do better than that this year. We’d like to beat the time, aiming for under 9 hours, but most importantly complete the challenge without having to resort to walking the fierce 1:3 gradients.
Please support our day of pain - it has to be worth a little donation to our chosen charity. We're providing the pain, so please help us reach our £1000 target by providing a small donation through these pages.
We've chosen to support Macmillan this year .... our efforts and your donations will directly help them provide much needed practical financial and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. One in three of us may need their help one day ... do take time to visit http://www.macmillan.org.uk and read about the amazing work this charity provides every day to people like you and us.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please help - it takes no time at all to use JustGiving and give a little to a worthy cause.
