Story
Freddie, 7, is our youngest of three children. During this period of home schooling, one of his science experiments was to sow seeds in different conditions and record the results. We chose Sunflowers and when we had finished his work, we decided to sow the surplus (100) in a large tray for a bit of fun.
Turns out we don't need 100 Sunflowers after all, and whilst discussing this with Fred he came up with the idea of selling the plants when they emerge. We asked him what he'd do with the money and he said straight away "Give it to homeless people".
So, Freddie is growing his Sunflowers to sell to you in order to give all of the proceeds to Northampton Hope Centre.
Fred is asking you to please donate £3.00 per Sunflower (or a little more if you wish!) and we will make sure you get your plant as soon as they are potted up (please make sure to tick the 'Share Contact Details with Freddie' box in the donation process so we know how to get in touch about your plant). If you'd rather not have a Sunflower that's fine, but please still make a donation to help smash through the target.
Here is the background to how Freddie came to his quick decision.
Last summer, whilst walking with me and his older brother Jenson in Northampton town centre, we passed a homeless person sitting on the street. Freddie asked me why the person was asking for money and food.
When I explained, Freddie remembered how at school he had been given a talk by someone from Northampton Hope Centre about homelessness and poverty, and how the charity supports such vulnerable people.
That experience has stuck with him since and he recalls it often.
Thank you for buying one of Freddie's Sunflowers and making a donation to Northampton Hope Centre in the process!
