Story
Freddie is 9 years old with a complex neurodevelopment syndrome. He has a long, ever growing list of health conditions including severe reflux, sleep apnea(cpap user overnight) scoliosis, feeding difficulties(requires a feeding tube in his tummy) constipation, heart defects...we could list a lot of problems! Freddie takes 11 doses of medicine a day to keep him well and comfortable. He also has severe developmental delays so is left unable to talk or walk. Despite his inability to walk unaided Freddie will be taking on the 2.6 challenge by doing 26 laps of our garden in his walking frame!!
Freddie absolutely loves being on his feet! He loves the freedom it brings him and it's also really good for his body to be in the upright position and using his muscles. His face always lights up when he sees his walking frame!
Freddie is going to take the challenge at his own pace...he's been unwell with his tummy for the past week so we are hoping being upright in his walking frame will be good for his tummy and it will help us to keep up with his daily physiotherapy.
All money raised will be going to the Children's Hospice South West. This is a charity very close to our hearts. Freddie has been visiting Little Harbour Children's Hospice for a few years now. He absolutely loves going there, he always has the best time. They also support us all as a family as we go through this journey with Freddie and are particularly important with the sibling support they provide for Freddie's siblings.
The hospice supports families with a child with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
They provide specialist palliative care, respite for the whole family, a sibling service for brothers and sisters, emergency support, end of life care and a bereavement service for as long as is needed.
Any donations will be so appreciated. The hospice relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions and right now when the UK is going through such an awful pandemic so many fundraisers have been cancelled or postponed. It is vital that they still maintain the levels of fundraising income to ensure that they can continue to be there for children and families, both now and into the future.
***This walk will very much be at Freddie's pace. Freddie has good days where he can walk for 10-15 minutes happily in his walker...and bad days where he will only want to do 5 minutes or none at all. We will complete the 26 laps but there will be no set time frame as Freddie's needs and health can vary day to day***
