Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
Between 7 and 12 April 2019, I will be running the Marathon Des Sables, a ~240km self-sufficient ultra marathon across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, raising money for Making the Leap, the UK social mobility charity.
Making the Leap focus on improving the lives of young people aged 11-25 from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The charity works with young people to raise their aspirations, increase their access to opportunities and help them to develop the skills, confidence and outlook to succeed in education, work and in life. The charity runs careers, employability and soft skills programmes and supports young people into employment with a focus on roles at top companies offering career progression. Last year, they helped over 10,000 young people across London. More information about the charity can be found here: https://makingtheleap.org.uk
Marathon Des Sables is frequently referred to as "the toughest race on earth" owing to its self-sufficiency, sandy terrain, and heat of the desert, with temperatures expected to peak at 45 degrees C. The race takes place over 6 days, averaging about a marathon per day, including a double-marathon stage. The course changes each year, but last year's stages were as follows:
- Day 1: 30.3km
- Day 2: 39.0km
- Day 3: 31.6km
- Day 4: 86.2km
- Day 5: 42.2km
- Day 6: 7.7km
More information about the race can be found here: http://marathondessables.com
and a teaser video for last year's race can be watched here: https://youtu.be/AplmI_G6xIQ
Thanks again for taking the time to visit my fundraising page and read more about the event and cause. On behalf of the charity and myself, I would like to thank you for the kind support.
