As you may know if you are here, cancer took my dear mum nearly a year ago.

Her last months were sad difficult times but she was able to stay at home and retain her independence and dignity for quite some time, thanks in no small part to the Macmillan nurses and their services. They really were wonderful and she, positive as always, sung their praises throughout.

I am setting off in a week to cycle from Pilzen here in the Czech Republic to Split in Croatia- it's just over 1000 kilometres, although I may Island hop a bit down the Aegean by ferry as the coast road in Croatia is no fun for cycling so I'm told. It will be at least 750km in the saddle though.My route includes the Grossglockner pass over the Alps. It's the highest in Austria! It seems a reasonble undertaking to ask for donations towards the Macmillan nurses work, and if they can give other poeple the dignity they gave my mum not a single turn of my pedals will be wasted.
