It costs £1,593 to fully kit an all-weather lifeboat crew member, I'd like to raise half of that sum and to do so I'll be wearing half a crew kit complete with traditional sea-worthy beard!

Inspired by Richard Lee and his half haircut and beard for Mayday 2016 I began growing my beard and hair in preparation for a dramatic half and half recreation of the Mayday 2017 promotional material.

I'm often more or less bearded but this self-imposed challenge has tested my patience, commitment and to a degree relationships both personal and professional! I can only imagine how this pales in comparison to the challenges our crews live with daily.

At lunchtime on Monday 24th I will be shaving half of several months of hair and beard to complete the look. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to having just 50% of my face back! The details of the 'enshavening' are yet to be confirmed, I may even do it myself (no pressure)!

Tuesday 25th will be spent in London in full half and half glory with many others who will be helping to kick off fundraising activities for Mayday 2017! I'm hoping to raise a large portion of my target here as I'm sure to draw attention!
