Story
Any fund raising support is very welcome. This year has included the significant 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings - the beginning of the liberation of Europe. This makes it the right year for us to be raising funds for all those past and present who serve in our armed forces, in memory of all those family members who committed so much, particularly John Hunter, Jock Cook and Jackie Dinning.
Fraser & Alan.
Fraser and Alan are proud to be doing the GNR for the Royal British Legion (RBL) as they both have family reasons for doing so. Fraser's Grandfather John Hunter was a Lancaster bomber pilot in the second world war. Alan’s father Jackie Dinning MM and Fraser’s other Grandfather John/Jock Cook BEM served in the second world war in the Royal Artillery and Royal Air Force respectively. Neither man spoke much about the war even though Jackie received the Military Medal following action in Tunisia. Jock was in North Africa too, and France.
After the war Jackie became a staunch supporter of the RBL working constantly to raise funds for those wounded or disadvantaged. Jock made his career in the Royal Air Force and served in the Middle East, Egypt, Kenya, Aden and Singapore. When he retired he too became a member of the RBL and worked with Jackie in the Dalston (Cumbria)Branch for many years.
For almost 30 years their energies were directed to helping fellow servicemen and their families through the fundraising efforts of the Dalston Branch; events which both their families supported wholeheartedly. It’s this heritage that will ensure Alan and Fraser complete the challenge of the GNR!__________________________________________
