Story

WE MADE IT!

At 5.00pm we set off from the bridge at the bottom of Ben Nevis. The first hour was the toughest, working off the cramps that we'd developed from travelling getting there, and knowing we would still be walking 24 hours later. We reached the summit and there were patches of snow... very surreal but we'd made it.

It was Scafell that proved the most difficult challenge, setting off at 3am, still dark with only a faint glow in the east and cramps in our legs we set off. Head torches strapped to our heads and donning the waterproofs we were dressed to impress. However, three hours later we were still trying to find the way to the summit. The rain and a wrong turning had meant we'd lost out bearings and the only way was up a scree of rocks. One thing we learnt was, if you're lost up a mountain... keep going up and you'll reach the summit! We did...and the rain stopped too... for 5 minutes... then it all came back with a vengeance. We descended in 2 hours and were very wet (there is no such thing as waterproofs) and at our lowest point.

At 12 we arrive at Snowdon after grabbing a couple of hours sleep. We had 5 hours to climb it so that we could finish within 24 hours. Easy... there were little old ladies with sticks going up. Though they probably took the train! So we set off, and even though the legs were in pain and we'd had 3 hours sleep, it was the easiest mountain to climb by a long way. We reached the summit in 2 hours and knew we'd done it (almost). Down the miner's path we went and got to the bottom at 4.04pm... 3 peaks challenge done in 23 hours! The tiredness and leg cramp hit us quickly but there was a Guiness (typical Welsh drink...) to greet us, so all was fine!

I'd just like to thank you all for the money you've donated and the support you've given. Target Ovarian Cancer is a great charity, the money you've donated will be put to helping women cope a little better with this terrible cancer. It was like a pilgrimage for us and so thank you for all your support!
