Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Bristol half marathon in September in memory of my beautiful, loving, talented, selfless, perfect sister Lisa and my gorgeous nephew Louie who is loved and thought of every day even though he never got to see the world.
Lisa became pregnant in early 2011 and grew a happy and healthy baby boy, Louie, to full term. During labour on 15th December 2011, Lisa suddenly had an Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE), which tragically ended her's and Louie's lives before they even got to see each other.
AFE is an extremely rare and incompletely understood obstetric emergency in which amniotic fluid, fetal cells, hair, or other debris enters the mother's blood stream via the placenta and trigger an allergic reaction. This reaction then results in cardiorespiratory (heart and lung) collapse and often death of the mother and in extreme cases the baby as well.
Lisa would have made a fantastic mum, and little Louie would have been the luckiest baby in the world, with a mum and dad who loved him to bits. The day Louie was to be born was going to be so perfect, and instead turned into devastation.
I hope that no more pregnant mothers and their babies have to go through this in future, which is why i want to raise as much money as possible towards this cause.
My chosen charity is Wellbeing of Women which is the only UK charity to fund research into AFE - the only hope to ever come to understand this life threatening condition and prevent future deaths of healthy mothers and their babies.
Please help me to raise money and awareness of AFE and donate to my justgiving page. Thank you.
Cesca.
