Story
Thanks for supporting my fundraising.
I signed up to take part in the last charity boxing match but I didn't even get myself passed the first step.
I then recieved a text message letting me know about this next one on the 18th March 2023.
The 18th March is an important date for me that pulls a lot at my heart strings.
My best friend would have been 21 on the 18th March 2008 but she sadly passed away suddenly in a car accident three weeks before.
The last time I saw my step father was 1st March 2021. I was shocked at how much weight he had lost. My once strong, fit and healthy step father had shrivelled down and was so weak.
I heard my mother explaining to the hospice that he was drinking Ensure. Small high calorie drinks to get nutrition.
I knew all about the ensure drinks because exactly two years prior to that moment I had been caring for my real father, for three months before he himself passed away from the evil disease, cancer.
Two of the strongest men I have ever known, I witnessed them weak, in tremendous pain and needing another to do everything for them. Heart wrenching!
The terror in my fathers eyes, like a scared little boy, will never be forgotten. Unable to help him but wanting to do everything.
To have your mind sound but your body slowly shutting down is a torture I would never want anyone to go through.
A once very proud man that said he would never get old and he would never depend on anyone, to have to live out his worst nightmare, was deeply saddening to me.
On the 14th or 15th March, my sister let me know that my step father was about to die any day.
Something inside me knew it was going to be Thursday 18th March. I just had a feeling that he would die on my best friend's that had already passed, on her birthday.
18th March 2021 at around 10:30am I recieced a text message from my sister to let me know that my step father had passed away.
It was a very sad and confusing day. What did this mean?
It meant something deeper. I knew it did.
I will be boxing exactly 2 years to the day after my Step-dad passed away from the evil disease and almost 4 years after my real father.
My sisters best friend, so young, not much older than 30 was taken by the evil disease a few months after my step dad.
2 Aunts, another friend that was very close to me at one point, and leaving 2 small children behind.
I know too many people that have suffered and passed away from cancer and 2 of my family members are suffering at the moment. One of them has gone bald from the chemo and however strong she seems I just know deep down, somewhere, the terror she feels if she is to ever experience having her independence taken away.
She lovingly cared for her brother who eventually passed away and she had first hand experience of the amazing care from the Macmillan Nurses.
So, this is my chosen charity. Macmillan.
I will be fighting on the 18th March 2023.
No boxing fight will ever compare to that of a cancer sufferer.
You can also purchase tickets to the boxing event and all the profits will go to a cancer charity. If you can't attend then all donations are really appreciated and I am really grateful for every little bit.
Thank you so much.
Lots of love
Frankie
