Story
So, I have finally done it! Signed up for my first marathon after years of watching others run and saying ‘I would love to do that, I should do that ..why haven’t I done that …’ . Well , 14th April 2024 - Manchester marathon here I come! Agghhh!
Those that know me well, will agree I am never far from a pair of trainers. An enthusiastic if fairly untalented runner who spends a lot of time trying to convince others to come running with me..with varying degrees of success! To those that acquiesced (or couldn’t think up an excuse quick enough!) thank you. It means a lot. The support and encouragement I have received from so many people throughout my training (particularly when injured and I was VERY grumpy) has been incredible. A big thank you to you all.
As soon as I decided to finally take the plunge, I knew that I would like to run in memory of my Aunty Valerie. Many of you will know that we lost this wonderful, lovely member of our family to Alzheimer’s in 2022. Heart-breaking - a life cut short way too soon. She will be my inspiration around the 26.2 miles and her photo will hopefully push me along when things get tough.
The Alzheimer’s Society provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia. Until a cure is found their ambition is to create a society where those effected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their communities without fear or prejudice.
I am hoping any donations given towards my marathon efforts will go some small way to supporting them achieve their goals.
Excited yet apprehensive for the big day and hope to do you all, and Aunty Valerie, proud x
