Story
I'm running the London Marathon in April 2023 to raise money for The Book Trade Charity. They work to support people across the book trade and their families, providing grants, housing and help when they need it most.
I know first hand how important the support they can provide can be. Back in April 2018 a colleague and friend of mine at Nosy Crow Ola Gotkowska was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, at the time she was just 32 years old. The Book Trade Charity were immediately on hand, and helped her and her partner George fundraise for cutting edge treatments not available on the NHS. Ola had built a network of friends and colleagues around the world whilst working in publishing and The Book Trade Charity made it possible for all of them to help her when she really needed it.
Ola died just over a year ago, on the 4th February 2022. She was bright, creative and incredibly witty. She was held in awe at Nosy Crow for having a better vocabulary in English (her second language), than plenty of the highly literate people we worked with had in their first. She was a great friend, and I and plenty of others at Nosy Crow miss her a lot.
So, on the 23rd of April this year I’ll be running my first ever marathon through the streets of London to raise money for The Book Trade Charity and in memory of Ola.
Thanks a lot for all and any support!
