Story

Medics against Violence is a small Scottish charity trying to do amazing things. We aim to tackle violence in Scotland in all its forms because we've all seen far too much of it.

I (Keith) have organised Recycle ( a cycle between Edinburgh and Glasgow on the 28th September) in my role as inspector with the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit and team lead for our emergency department based, Violence intervention program "NAVIGATOR".
Navigator aims to support people away from chronically violent lifestyles supported by our colleagues in the emergency department, statutory agencies and third sector.
We have Navigators in Glasgow royal infirmary & Edinburgh royal infirmary. Our "Navs" are world class human beings working nightshift weekends when people most need them. They offer compassion, kindness and practical support to address the root causes that brought the person into hospital.
Having developed a trusting relationship, they continue to offer caring, consistent support to those who have decided to change their lifestyle away from violence & chaos.

RECYCLE - Still breaking the chain of violence has been organised to
- Raise awareness of Violence reduction.
- Show the innovative partnerships which are effectively tackling violence, in all its forms, across Scotland.
- To bring together a varied range of people, all involved in one way or another in the cycle of violence, sharing ideas of what works and what we can do better.
- Raise money which will be used by our Navigators to support those in acute crisis, we know from experience that this can make a huge difference to people when they most need it.

I would ask that as well as donating whatever you can afford, that you take a minute to think what else YOU can do. Violence will not be reduced by the Police alone, it's a community effort. We have seen massive reductions in violence across Scotland over the last ten years, NOW is the time for us all to redouble our efforts and make Scotland THE worlds safest country, 100% doable!!!
