Story
I turned 30 on the 30th September 2021 and challenged myself over the month to do 30 new things over 30 days. One of them was to complete the Great North Run half marathon with my mum, in her wheelchair. My mum has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and has never let it stop her!
We had never trained for it, never even run together, and purchased a more 'hardy' wheelchair, the day before the race. We did it! It was euphoric and demonstrated that anything can be done when you put your mind to it.
This year we are doing it again, but with a cause. The charity Mind works to ensure that nobody faces mental health problems alone. They provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
Mental health problems affect many of our own friends and family and I have been struggling with anxiety for many years. We want to raise awareness and break the stigma around mental health.
