Inspiration and Sentiment behind Ride the Storms
Forth Valley Nurses Choir knew they wanted to keep up the tradition of supporting Children in Need, and in the current climate a music video is the best way for us to do that. Our Musical Director, Fergus Munro has composed and arranged the song ‘Ride the Storms’ for this very purpose.
We can’t ignore the global situation and responding to it is tricky, so the
question asked was - What are the Nurses there for and what is the point of Children in Need? The answer seemed to be that they are there to help people through the storms.
Nurses and all those working in health and social care simply can’t make all the hurt go away, neither can Children in Need, but what they can do is find those who are most vulnerable or scared and help them till the hurting is over.
‘If I’m stranded in a storm at sea with you, I can’t tell the waves to be
still, but I can do everything possible to keep that boat afloat. I could
hold your hand and ride it out with you until the sun shines again’.
This year 2020, we asked the children of one of our local schools, Windsor Park School in Falkirk to join us. As one of only three schools for the deaf in Scotland, they nurture and support pupils who have hearing loss to develop language and / or alternative communication skills. The children and young people who attend Windsor Park School are educated by qualified Teachers of the Deaf and highly skilled Support for Learning Assistants within a nurturing, total communication environment. The pupils have access to a British Sign Language tutor for weekly signing lessons. We are delighted that they feature in our video using their signing skills.
We are also lucky to have Alec Soutar our ‘resident’ Serco and NHS Forth Valley award winning porter and piper in Forth Valley Royal Hospital join us too.
