Story
This April, I will run in the 2023 London Marathon to raise funds for Asthma + Lung UK in memory of my wife & Lewis's adored mum; Vanessa Stevens. I believe that with your help, we can make a difference
We lost our beautiful Ness in July of 2022, tragically and unexpectedly at the age of 46, following a long and hard-fought battle with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Ness fought this terrible disease with such strengh, determination and positivity. She was such an inspiration to all her friends and family, a truly beautiful soul.
Ness was diagnosed in her early thirties and over the years we felt that there was little understanding of the degree of illness presenting in someone of her age. This was exacerbated by the limited progressive medical opportunities available to improve our situation.
I am running the 2023 London Marathon to raise money for the Asthma + Lung UK charity, whose work supports all people who suffer with breathing related health problems, including COPD. By supporting this charity, I hope that continued research can improve the diagnosis of complex presentations of COPD and other breathing related diseases. Ensuring patients can benefit from improved disease management and clinical solutions, leading to better outcomes and quality of life.
I have been a casual runner for a number of years although I have never ran a marathon before so this will be a great challenge. I’m looking forward to the healthy distraction of marathon training while we try to adjust to life without Ness. Come the day, I’d like to imagine Ness running alongside me – she was always the sporty one!
Asthma + Lung UK are the only UK charity that fights for everyones right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.
I'd be extremely grateful for any donations you could make.
THANK YOU x
