We provide dedicated care and support to Sheffield people with terminal illness

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. -  I've done it already!!!! but there's still time to donate!

I guess you might have a few questions.......

WHAT are you doin'? -  WHY are you doin' it? - WHEN are you doin' it? And....  - Am I MAD?????????

The WHAT.....   I am running (not unlike Forest Gump) 10km, each day, for 10 days adding up to a grand total of 100km over the 10 days. This is all in aid of the St Luke's Hospice in Sheffield. It does a stupendous job of caring for the terminally ill and supporting their family members.

The WHY.....     Sometimes we are just blessed, we meet people throughout are lives who we make a part of our family. Me, I was more than just fortunate I got LUCKY, a 2 for 1!!!!! My brother, Nigel  married a fabulous person called Dawn and what made it even sweeter and even more fantastic, was that Dawn's sister Jackie turned out to be fabulous too!

Dawn died last year, leaving me in awe of how big an influence she was, without my even knowing it and now Jackie is ill too. So back to the WHY, I've been blessed...............so Jackie and Dawn - this is for you, my sisters.

The WHEN.......    My first 10km run will take place on Saturday 26th June and my final 10km run will take place on Monday 5th July.   I'll remember to tell you almost all about it, you know the dodgy knees, the hip that might need replacing and the fat feet - but more importantly I'll tell you about my achieving my goal of 100km.

Am I MAD?..........  Absol "f***in" lutely!    My Madness will, I'm sure, be instantly recogniseable to all - Especially to ALL my sisters!!!      Sam and Liz, Dawn and Jackie, Wherever you are, whatever you're doing THANKS for all your love and support!

Here's the techie bit about giving donations safely........Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Well I've done it - lost a few pounds and raised some money - (not in that order of priority I might add!)

For those of you who I've texted every night of my challenge - the next bit will be all too familiar.

For those of you who I didn't text here's a quick run down of what happened!

Day1 - I concentrated so much on psyching myself up for the run that I forgot to plan how I would physically take a photo to prove I'd done the running - So trying to remove my iphone from my armband, with my sweaty hands so I could take a photo of the treadmill results ended up being a challenge too far! I dropped the iphone, nearly gave myself concussion, then the 2 braincells not functioning on breathing gave out and I couldn't make out the right button to take the photo. didn't even catch how long it took too busy trying to take a photo- Run successful - photo pants!

Day 2  - I thought about it a bit more - the photo, not the running and decided to take my camera - Da Daaaahhhhhh! Running - crikey that's the easy bit,  all this coordinating technology crap when the treadmill only tells you your details 3 times before it thinks the next guy wants to run - that has become the challenge! So what happened this time - forgot to take the automatic flash off and most of the photo is just that - the flash reflection off the treadmill!! Run successful - Photo Pants!

Day 3 - Been to work today  in Leeds- so I didn't get to finish my run until late (11.20pm) This time I got the photo (mostly flash again!) and managed to confirm my time as 71 mins and 32 secs - Whooo wooo! Run successful - photo sorted!

Day 4 - Still working in Leeds but I know that I'm off to Mo's leaving do after work - So I got up especially to run at stupid oclock in the morning - I run 7km in just under 45mins - definitely a morning runner! After having dinner with Mo and the guys in Leeds, I return to Sheffield for my run- with a stomach full of calamari and seafood risotto! Not good - definately not good! 3km finally complete in just under 25mins, when I got home I could hardly see my fat feet over my fat stomach - never doing that again! Run successful - forgot the camera!

Day 5 - Still working in Leeds - what with all the kerfuffle and the nap I decided to take when I got back to Sheffield - the day is running short - I finish my 5th 10km at 11.50pm. Half way there baby yeah!!!! Thanks to all of you who sent your kind words of support! Run successful - A camera just seemed obsessive at this time of night

Day 6 -  The run was completed in 71mins and 56 secs - and my legs felt like lead. Odd how the 5 minute walk to the gym had suddenly become the 15 minute walk home. I help myself to the nurophen and a cold bottle of smirnoff ice as a night cap after my bath! Run successful - Pants to the photos!

Day 7 - A WICKED KICKASS run - 10km finished in 68mins and 38secs - it felt great - I celebrate with a cigarette! Fabulous! Must have been the smirnoff and nurophen!

Day 8 - I have arrived at my peak - its only taken 8 days to get there! It is a Dawn -St Luke's record - 10km finished in 67mins and 12secs - legs feel like jelly and I have to give them 10mins to settle down before I get in the car - no celebratory cigarette today!

Day 9 - My Penultimate run - as Vickster called it! Run complete in 67min and 22secs - Dawn is leaving the building!

Day 10 - This is it - the last 10km - completed in an abysmal time of 75mins and 3secs! Mission accomplished 100km done and dusted - Dawn has left the building

To you ALL a HUGE THANKS for keeping the momentum going! Thanks for your support and your donations!
