Story
“Tell the story of the mountain you climbed. Your words could become a page in someone else’s survival guide.” - Morgan Harper Nichols
The preceding quote is one that Kayla chose to include in the last published piece that she wrote. Even in her darkest moments, Kayla was always working to help others. Kayla battled mental illness for many years, never giving up and leaving a lasting impression everywhere she went with her kind and giving nature. While in high school, Kayla spent time volunteering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and started a club centered around mental health to help reduce the stigma and create a culture of hope. During her time in treatment, Kayla was constantly searching for ways to help those around her, whether it be through her writing, creating resources, participating in research studies, or simply by offering a listening ear. We tragically lost Kayla to her battle with her eating disorder on May 7th, but want to continue her work in the field of mental health advocacy, helping her story to become a page in someone else’s survival guide. Your donation to one of Kayla’s favorite organizations, National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), will not only help to continue her work but also help other families save “their” Kayla. If you are interested in learning more about eating disorders, to raise awareness and help reduce the stigma, I encourage you to read Kayla’s last piece entitled Trying Again: https://twloha.com/blog/trying-again/. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means more than you know. As Kayla would have said, “Keep hope alive”.
