We dedicated a cycle ride on Sunday 31st October to Godwin Calafato who lost his battle against cancer. He was an exceptional gentleman, a keen cyclist and motorcyclist instructor and a loving father.
Donations can be made until Friday 5th November. Thanks for giving generously.
Read more about the prayer sang to us from Philip Johnson, one of Godwin's cycling colleague:
A short prayer for Godwin,
Godwin Calafato, your friends are all here
Though we ride in the rain at this time of the year
We'll ride in the sun, and we'll ride in the rain,
And remember your face and bright smile once again.
Though you had to go, and it troubles us so
We wish you fond peace as onwards we go.
We'll think of you kindly, and wish you at ease,
And every one of us, our strength will increase;
Fa la, la la la la, la la la la la,
Fa la, la la la la, la la la la la.
Written by Philip Johnson.
I wrote it to be sung to the tune “Packington’s Pound”, which is an old English folk tune from the early 1700’s. Many folk tunes have been lost from that era, as they were not written down, but this one survived in written lute music. It also seems to be played as a standard by classical guitar students. There are several examples of it on You Tube. Here is one, played by a little boy called Kaito:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CixKZUQP-3c&feature=related
