Story
In August we will be setting off to climb Ben Nevis (Mountain of Heaven) in support of collaboration of research into rare cancers. We are in for a fantastic challenge that will see us reach the top of Britain and conquer the highest peak at 1,343m (4,409ft) above sea level.
Our challenge is in memory of Beautiful, Brave Bronte Doyne, who lost her battle aged 19 in march 2013 to a very rare cancer, Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma, most often diagnosed in teens and young adults.
Bronte’s tragic journey from diagnosis to death impacted many people when her story was widely reported in the media both nationally and internationally, highlighting the extremely poor treatment, care and outcome that can follow such a cruel diagnosis. Bronte never gave in to life’s challenges and in who’s name we will continue to fight for awareness and beating rare cancers.
THROUGH A SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT, THE FUNDS RAISED ON THIS PAGE WILL BE USED BY CANCER RESEARCH UK TO SUPPORT THE INTERNATIONAL RARE CANCERS INITIATIVE, WHICH IS COMMUNICATING ACROSS THE WORLD TO FACILITATE INTERNATIONAL CLINICAL TRIALS FOR RARE CANCERS, LIKE FIBROLAMELLAR HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA

Rare cancers account for 22% all newly diagnosed cancers each year, more than any single common cancer, but have extremely poorer survival outcomes and unlike common cancers, sadly it is not improving. Patients often suffer late diagnosis, no information, no successful treatment, poor symptom control and isolation. These cancers do not get the attention they deserve.
