Story
On Sunday 28 May 2023, we will be running the Edinburgh Marathon. Having never competed in a marathon before, we face a great challenge which we are ready to take on to the best of our abilities. Being fortunate enough to have our health is not something we want to take for granted and it would be an honour and a privilege to raise funds for those in need of further assistance.
Our chosen charity is Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Scotland. This charity is very close to our hearts.
Allyson was diagnosed with MND in late 2020. MND is a brutal, rapidly progressing neurological disease. It stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles, meaning people with MND will quickly lose their ability to walk, talk, eat and breathe unaided. There is no cure or effective treatment, and the average life expectancy from diagnosis is less than two years. We were able to witness first-hand the cruelty of this disease. Every step of the way Allyson showed immense resilience and courage, all done with a smile on her face. It was a true testament to her character how she dealt with this illness and even doubled her initial diagnosis. Allyson sadly passed away in May 2022.
MND Scotland is here to support every family affected by MND in Scotland, to make sure no one has to go through the devastation of MND alone. They fight to improve quality of life for everyone living with MND and to ensure their voices are heard. They are determined to find a cure and fund pioneering research which is taking them a step closer to that day.
We are ever so grateful for any donations towards our page. Unfortunately, it was too late for Allyson, but we truly believe MND Scotland can find a cure for the next generation.
