Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

February 1st 2018, we lost my sister Addie to an aggressive and brutal brain tumour. Addie was only 16 years old. Cancer came in to her young life in 2011 when she was 9.  Addie was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, spending a year in hospital with chemo and surgery to remove her tibia bone. She recovered and we all breathed a sigh of relief having beaten the beast. Sadly however, this was only the beginning. In late 2016, Addie woke up and was unable to speak or communicate; she was rushed into hospital by ambulance and tests later revealed devastating news – Addie had a high grade, inoperable, aggressive brain tumour. More, shockingly, the brain tumour was a primary cancer unrelated to the first cancer.  Genetic testing revealed Addie had Li Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) usually an inherited familial predisposition to the disease.

I'm running my first Marathon for Addie; the furthest I've ever previously run is a 5K Race for Life. To say I'm nervous is an understatement but I'm keen and determined. Running along side me is my mum - this will be her 3rdMarathon, the last time she ran was in  2018.  We are celebrating Addie's 21st birthday this year so its extra special and we are keen to run together for Addie.

In addition to running the London Marathon and if our legs are still able, the week after the London Marathon we will be joined by Tara (my Dad) and 23 family and friends to walk over 100kms of the Camino de Santiago.

In October 2022, we 'Celebrated Addie' on what would have been her 21st birthday. We decided to organise 21 events/challenges over the next year. We hope to raise over £21k, this is 2/21 challenges we face.
