Story
This year, I am participating in the London Marathon to raise awareness for ActionAid, and their work in supporting women and children who are marginalised, abused and are unable to access basic human rights to safety, sustenance and education.
ActionAid is a non-profit with an international reach. Focussed on creating lasting change, ActionAid adopts a long-term view towards liberating impoverished communities from social injustice and gender inequality. Education is naturally a cornerstone of their programmes but their work finds expression in many more ways - the provision of basic necessities, humanitarian aid, climate change, women's rights and safety are just some of the many practical ways they are working with communities around the world.
With the current humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan, ActionAid is working on the ground to safeguard women and children. For the fear of reprisals, details have been kept decidedly light on social media. For more information, reach out to ActionAid or visit: https://www.actionaid.org.uk/donate/emergency/afghanistan-appeal
On the occasion that is my 40th birthday this year, I have chosen to raise funds for ActionAid and the important narrative of gender injustice that the world needs to hear today, tomorrow and for as long as we need to until the time comes when no mother, sister, wife or daughter will have to think about their safety or have their basic rights removed.
Join me on this important and meaningful fundraising journey.
Thank you,
Fonz
