Story
The Flying Tortoise, a 1953 Ford Popular resplendent in two-tone green and rust after spending years abandoned, has raised many thousands of pounds for charities by competing on serious historic rallies and running competitions to guess mileage covered.
It is a little car with a small engine but a big heart and has successfully completed two Le Jogs, reputedly the toughest historic rally in Europe, as well as a previous run from John O'Groats to Monte Carlo.
On January 31st 2018 the Monte Carlo Classique starts in Paisley, finishing in Monte Carlo on February 4th. The Flying Tortoise will be driven from North Wales to Paisley, do the event, and then be driven back to North Wales. This is unlikely to be easy as part of the route involves Alpine passes and there could well be snow. The total mileage is somewhere between 2200 miles and 2800 miles, assuming we don't get lost!
A competition to guess the actual mileage is being run, with a prize of a three night weekend break for two donated by the four star Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells for the person getting closest to the correct speedometer reading. Email fordcharityrun@aol.com for an entry form if you want to take part in the competition. Otherwise thank you for your donation.
All expenses are covered by myself and navigator so every penny raised goes to Pancreatic Cancer Action.
