Story
I served in the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) for 6 years, leaving in 2013 as a substantive Corporal.
I was in Afghanistan from August 2009 until February 2010 when I was sent home with shrapnel wounds in my left arm from a bomb blast that injured a few of my colleagues and killed several of our Afghan army counterparts.
When I left the army, like most lads, I struggled through a period of readjustment with little guidance or support from the forces, trying to figure out what I was going to be doing next. It was during this time that I reached out to the FirstLight Trust in Scarborough for some help. They very quickly signposted me to some local support and secured me some funding for a training course. This resulted in me gaining some employment that took the pressure off my situation
significantly and helped me in my future endeavors.
To help FirstLight Trust continue to support other veterans from the hub in Scarborough I will be running 11km for 11 days from the 1st November. I Will finish my last run on the 11th November at an 11am remembrance service in Scarborough.
I am extremely grateful to the FirstLight Trust for their support back in those uncertain days and I have always promised to myself that I would repay them somehow. That is how this idea has come about. I want to utilise the significance of November 11th to boost awareness of the charity and hopefully to make some money; firstly, to repay their kindness to me and secondly so that
they can continue helping other veterans.
