Story
A few years back my cousin Nicola slipped whilst on a business trip and broke her femur. When in hospital the doctor noticed something wasn't quiet right and referred her to a specialist. After a number of tests Nicola was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow). With her usual upbeat and determined attitde Nicola started her fight against the cancer by using alternative natural treatment. Nicola decided not to go down the route of chemotherapy as she always wanted to have children and knew the risks of going under such treatment.
A few years later, and winning her fight against the Myeloma Nicola and husband Rudy had a beautiful baby girl called Harriet. Unfortunately whilst Nicolas body was nurturing baby Harriet it was not fighting the Myeloma.
At this point Nicola decided to undergo chemotherapy and stem cell surgery to final rid herself of the Myeloma. After a few weeks of treatment and alot of determination Nicola was given the all clear on Christmas Eve. The best Christmas prezzie the family could have asked for.
Unfortunately due to the anti-rejection medication and other reasons I will never begin understand Nicola took a turn of the worse and lost her battle.
Nicola was a person that was always positive and full of life, even when everything was stacked up against her. She faced every challenge head on and didn't shy away from anything. For this reason I feel it is my turn to set my self a few challenges in Nicola's honour and at the same time raise some money for the charity that helped her in her times of need.
Total Warrior is a 10k run through the Lake District with 25 obsticles along the way. I am sure it will push me to my limits but I know Nicola will be urging me all the way knowing I was doing it for a great cause.
