Story

Story

In my youth I had struggled with a many challenges.

Very early on I was diagnosed with Epilepsy.
(Spoilers, I don’t have epilepsy)

When I was around the age of 6 months I had high
fevers almost on the daily and vomiting anything that I was fed.

Thus, leading the faulty diagnosis of epilepsy.

Since that day I have been fed the notion that
something is wrong with me.

I was medicated with powerful medicine, that would
induce drowsiness and sleepiness.

I know it might not sound bad, sleeping all day long,
what wouldn’t we all give to sleep a bit more in the morning.

But it was nothing like that for me.

It was not the relaxing sleep. It was induced, forced
by the medicine I was forced to take for the wrong diagnosis.

This lead to a variety of Mental Health concerns to
which some lead to more worrying thoughts.

It led to me experiencing feelings such as worthlessness
and slowly but surely feeling…like I was losing my identity.

My sense of being, started to fade, and it felt like
my body was a prison for my mind.

Fast forward to the age of eighteen.

Due to some unforeseen events. My doctor had been
changed, so all the examination tests had to be re-done.

And here in this moment, For the first time in 18
years, I felt hope.

Whilst my new doctor was shouting at my parents for
being irresponsible. And telling them that there’s nothing wrong with me, I do
not have epilepsy! I have never had it!

I was busy dreaming. That I can be more than a
sleeping husk, That in fact, I do have a future.

This experience has really shaped me into who I am
today.

And thanks to this experience and to the courage of our
co-workers to share their stories.

I have decided to do a little more.

For people that don’t
have that kind of hope…In fact might be losing hope day by day.

I want to give them
that hope back one day.

For their families to
not suffer being forgotten by their loved ones.

And for them to not have to lose themselves ever
again, so they can have hope, love, and enjoy life. Like they deserve to.

Is for these reasons and more that I will be trekking
across the Three Peaks Challenge in August to raise money for Alzheimer’s
Research UK,

And amazing Charity that funds research into helping
to find a cure for Alzheimer’s and various forms of dementia.

I chose to trek across Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike &
Snowdon because I wanted my first ever challenge to be something big and hard.
That’s why I chose to go with the 24h time limit rather than 3-5 days it would
normally take.

To encourage more support and more donations for ARUK.

So, we can find a cure Together.

The Trek Plan.

I will start my drive from Luton towards where the
trek starts. In Scotland the track begins at the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre car
park, at Achintee on the east side of Ben Nevis about 2 km from the town center
of Fort William, and approximately 20 m above sea level.

Drive Luton->Fort William
8.30h – 476 miles/ 766 km

I will spend the night at Fort William, then at first
daylight (4:30) I shall Make my way up the first of the three mountains.

Ben Nevis’s summit is 1.345 km above sea level and is
the highest land in any direction for 738 miles. Aiming to finish around 4-5h
(09:30)

Drive Fort Williams->Wasdale National Trust
Campsite
 - 5.25h -254 miles/ 408km

The hike begins at the Wasdale National Trust Car
Park, adjacent to the Wasdale campsite. Cross the Lingmell Beck via the
footbridge and begin the vertical climb. Aiming to finish 3-.4h (18:45)

Drive Wasdale National Trust Campsite-> Llanberis
– 4.25h – 206 miles/334 km

The route starts in the village of Llanberis – Aim to
finish 5h (23:45)

And hopefully finish in 24h!
