13 months ago, we tragically and unexpectedly lost our Dad, the most inspiring, hardworking and dedicated Dad we could have ever wished for. Not a day goes by where we are not all completely heartbroken and lost without him.

Dad suffered a fatal cardiac arrest whilst in his tractor and only yards away from the farm, where he worked tirelessly his whole life. Midlands Air Ambulance were called and arrived within minutes, landing and remaining on standby in an adjacent field. Unfortunately, the paramedics, already at the scene, were unable to save Dad, despite their efforts.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Midlands Air Ambulance for responding so rapidly and for waiting patiently throughout this difficult time.

Midlands air ambulance respond to 2,000 call outs each year. What is not widely known is that Midlands Air Ambulance receives no Government or National Lottery funding. Each Midlands Air Ambulance mission costs £2,500 and in excess of £9 million is needed each year to keep its three air ambulances operational, which is donated entirely by the public and local businesses.

In memory of Dad and to help raise money for an amazing local charity, I will be running the Long Mynd Hike on October 6th. This is a 50 mile fell run through the Shropshire Hills, with 8,000ft of climbing and covering 8 summits.

Although I've always been a runner, I have never done anything as challenging as this and Dad would most definitely be telling me" "you're off your head!!"
